The birds have the right idea…

Like most Englishman, I like a good moan and will typically moan if it’s too cold, too wet and even if it’s too cold. But not this year. It’s been such a rubbish summer that any glimmer of sunshine and I’ve dropped what I’m doing and headed out on the mountain bike.

Even now as I write this, I rode home in scorching heat yesterday, but look out of the window to see rain beading on the glass. It’s depressing!

Now this might just be my theory, but I’ve not seen many birds this summer. Could be as I’ve been indoors a lot sheltering from torrential rain and nutters celebrating the lack of a hosepipe ban- but either way I’ve not seen nearly as many as I should. Maybe they’ve emigrated South already, deciding the UK was far to rubbish to waste a summer on.

I agree, so last night booked some flights down to Spain for the end of September, where I plan on having an extended trip for at least 3weeks, and I’ll be enjoying as many of the amazing mountain biking spots I can. Already I’m planning on the El Chorro national park, and will be visiting Bubuion up in the mountains.

I’d like to get down to Barcelona too, to hit some street and see some of the spots that BMXer Ruben Alcantara made famous. There are also a few bikeparks worth visiting and a bunch of tour operators that offer different style mountain biking holidays.

So I’m going to cherry pick my way round them.

It’s kind of funny, as it’s raining right now and I couldn’t really care less- I’m far too busy researching where I’m going to be riding in scorching sun in a months time.

Infact, it’s lifted my mood somewhat, so I think I’ll head out for a ride. It’s not all bad really!

Seriously though, when the weather is bad day after day, it’s worth putting some energy in to planning your next trip. It now feels to me that summer has even come yet- so my mood has been lifted too.

Here’s to catching up with those birds next month, cheers!
